Metabolic health without the hype
What this site is for. Most metabolic health and weight management content online is a press release with a byline, or the same few sources rewritten. Velqiva works more narrowly: one question at a time, read against the research, with the uncertainty left in.
Questions we get asked
Is berberine as good as metformin?
Some trials have compared them, but berberine is not an approved treatment and should not be substituted for prescribed medication. That decision belongs with the clinician managing your care.
Why is berberine usually taken in divided doses?
It is poorly absorbed and gastrointestinal side effects are dose-related, so trials typically split intake across meals.
Can I take berberine with my prescription?
Ask a pharmacist first. Berberine inhibits CYP3A4 and can raise levels of many common medications.
